New Book from Professor Maria Karamessini

The book analyses the integration of women in Greece in the labor force and in paid work and the evolution of gender inequalities in the labor market from 1960 until today, examining their determinants in different time periods. Particular emphasis has been placed on studying the impact of state intervention since the 1980s in fields such as labour market policy, the pension system, social care, reconciliation of work and family/personal life and gender equality policy. The chapters dedicated to the ten-year economic crisis that began in 2008 and was intensified and prolonged by harsh austerity policies also examine the contribution of wage-income, industrial relations, health and education policies in shaping or mitigating its gendered effects on both paid and unpaid work.
