Georgios Papaioannou

Postdoctoral Researcher

George Papaioannou is a post-doctoral Fellow at the Department of Social Policy (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences) since 2018. He has completed his studies at the Department of History of the Ionian University at undergraduate and postgraduate level (MSc in Historical Demography). Since 2017 he has a doctorate degree in Sociology (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences). Over recent years he has participated as a speaker in workshops, seminars and conferences in Greece and abroad. His articles have also been published in scientific journals and edited books. He has collaborated with the Professor of Sociology at the University of Lorraine, Antigoni Mouchtouris, in the editing and translation of two of her books from French into Greek (2015 and 2020). In 2020 he published his first book titled “Professional Communities in Greece: The Metalworkers of Larymna” from the series of books Sociology and Work of Papazisis Publications, which is based on his doctoral dissertation (“Social Networks and Economic Change: Larymna, from rural community to an industrial area”, with Professor Evangelos Pronzas as the main supervisor). His scientific interests are placed in the field of economic sociology, especially in the analysis of social networks in times of change and crisis. It also deals with issues addressed by industrial sociology, such as the importance of work in shaping professional culture at the community level. His post-doctoral research project under the supervision of Professor Iordanis Psimmenos, focuses on the role of migrants labour networks in the crytallization of their social status in the host country.
