Orestis Istikopoulos

PhD Candidate

Orestis Istikopoulos was born in Athens in 1992. He is a PhD candidate in the Department of Social Policy at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, having as his research topic the Sociology of Labour. He studied Social Policy at Panteion University where he graduated in 2015. Then followed the postgraduate program of the Department of Social Policy entitled "Methods and Applications of Social Policy" which he completed in 2017. In his final thesis he dealt with the extreme forms of flexibility in the Greek labor market and more specifically with employees of contracting companies in the airport area. In his PhD research he studies the low-status migrant labour by analyzing the example of the migrant street peddlers of Athens in a period of crisis. His research interests focus on issues of migration, labour, social stratification and mobility and urban sociology. He  participates in the research team of the Center for Social Morphology and Social Policy (KEKMOP) of Panteion University. He has attended a series of seminars both in Greece and abroad (Durham University in 2016).
