Social Welfare and Social Justice

This seminar is situated in the area of contemporary political philosophy and is concerned with some of the key foundational notions in social policy such as social justice and social welfare. We examine critically and in detail some of the different aspects, theories and thinkers in contemporary discussions of these terms and we seek to understand the complex relations between the two and whether, and how, social justice and social welfare can be compatible within the framework of contemporary democracies and welfare states.

Evaluation: The evaluation of the seminar is based 30% on the in-class presentation and 70% on a final written essay on a relative topic.
