Foundations of Social Policy: Issues in Justice, Equality and Rights

This course examines some of the basic philosophical and conceptual foundations of all social policy through the reading of important contemporary thinkers (Rawls, Dworkin, Nozik, Sen etc.) and different theoretical approaches (liberalism, utilitarianism, Marxism, communitarianism etc.) in the area of contemporary Anglo –Saxon political philosophy. The course aims to discuss critically some of the basic philosophical issues underlying all social policy such as justice, equality, choice, human – citizen rights, values and social welfare.
