Athina Mara is a PhD candidate in Social Policy at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. She is also the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning Officer/Coordinator at NADINE (Digital Integrated system for the social support of migrants and refugees) Horizon 2020 project. Her PhD topic focuses on the role of social policy in the social acceptance of same-sex families in Greece. Mara’s academic interests include gender & queer studies, social inequalities, and sociology. She graduated with honors in the Department of Sociology at Panteion University and continued her MSc studies in Social Policy and Social Intervention in the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences of Utrecht University (The Netherlands).
Her academic work has been presented at European conferences, such as the 6th & 7th Conference of the Hellenic Sociological Society, the 2nd "Non-Monogamies and Contemporary Intimacies" in Sigmund Freud University, Vienna (Austria), in "Proud In Europe? LGBTI Emancipation in Comparative Perspective", in Amsterdam Research Center for Gender and Sexuality (ARC-GS) (University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands) and in the European Conference of Politics & Gender (University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
