Statistical Methods in Social Research

The course is an overview of the principles, methods and practicalities of the design and execution of sample surveys in social research and the statistical analysis of social data (hypothesis testing, multiple regression, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, etc). Students are trained in the application of statistical techniques to real social science research questions using the SPSS computer package for analyzing the European Social Survey data and the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe. At the end of the course, the students should be able to carry out bivariate analyses, cluster analysis and factor analysis and have an appreciation of multiple regression.
