Aspects of the European Integration process

The aim of the seminar is for the student to come into contact with the terms and conditions on the basis of which the European Communities were initially created and subsequently evolved into the European Economic Community and later the European Union. Also examined, above and beyond this historical evolution, are the specific institutions of the European unification project (European Council, Commission, Parliament, European Court). Attention will be focused on the internal conflicts of the unification process both at the level of countries and at that of institutions. Finally emphasis will be placed on the elaboration of the E.U.'s position, on the one hand as an economic power and on the other as a factor for intervention in international developments.
