Comparative Education and European Education Policy

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the conceptual tools for the analysis and interpretation of issues of education policy in international and comparative perspective. Comparative Education is presented as a field of study which deals with the study of societies and their education systems, beginning outside the education system in an effort to “read” the cultural, historical, socio-economic and political framework of the social formations against which educational patterns are understood. To this direction, education policy issues of selected European societies are analysed and interpreted, with a special emphasis in the examination of the influences of European Education Policy.
